Hello, my name is Darith Chen, aka D. I have eight brothers and sisters. I was born in Cambodia and came to America when I was ten year old. I went to Princeton High School. I love to eat, sleep, and listen to music during my free time. I work at Kroger. One interecting thing about me is that I am the first person in my family to go to college.

I want to be a teacher since I was ten year old. I was inspired by all of my teachers, especially my ESL's teachers, to become a teacher. When I was here and unable to speak or write English, it was my teachers that do everything they can to help me adjust into the new and unfamiliar environment. Able to go to school give me hope of a better furture than I would have in Cambodia. I want to be a teacher so that I will hopefully inspire and change someone's life like my teachers done for me. Also I love to teach and help other to better understand the world.

I volunteer tutoring at the ICYO for two hours on Tuesday and Wednesday to an Elementary School kids. I used to tutor the my middle school and observe my high school.

  1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.

b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.

It is important for teacher to be creative and constructive in order to inspire students to want to learn. As a future math teacher, it is very important for me to be creative and relevant to the real world so that the students will be more interest in learning. I learn how to be creative through my Computer Tool’s class by using technology and to be constructivism. It is very important to combine today technology and learning together in order for a better result. Using the technology will help the students stay relevant to real world. Which lead to my group project because I want to teach something that all the student can be relate to this time of year, which is taxes. By teaching everyone on how to do percentage and use internet to help find resource, which I believe that I will get most of the students’ attention because it is taxes time. Also, I give them a little head up, how much they are actually making after all the reduction. Often, math teachers are required by state to just simply teach equation and number, but this time I add some meaning to this number and equation.

4. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Teachers:

a. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources

YouTube: Copyright for Educators
This standard has been passed down by the teachers to the students since I could remember. My teachers always talking about plagiarism and the important of gave the entire sources whenever I have to do a project, especially a research project. When I come to college, I really that citing your sources was very easy and important at the same time because you should always give credit to the author of the information. Then we were shown a movie on YouTube about copyright. When I take the Computer Tool for Teacher class, I realize that there are ways to override the copyright. But the biggest one is that teacher can use many wonderful resources as long as it is related to education and gave sources. However, a teacher must be extra careful because there are some exceptions. In the class, we were given a piece of paper with copyright information. It has the type of medium, and what a teacher can do with it. When I become a teacher I would more likely to refer to this information.

3. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning
Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers:

d. model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning
I have learned so much from the Computer Tools class about the digital and global society. On ourfirst week of the class we learn about Wiki-space, a social website where you can create a profile and post information and communicate with other Wikispace’s member. We use the Wiki-space to post our assignments on it such as the lesson game and lesson plan. Symbaloo is a website that is like a bookmark, where you can post all of the websites that you often visited and it save them for you. I learned from the librarian about the all of the websites that you visited and used as a guide for teaching career. We used the Googledocs to created slide and PowerPoint, and communicated with everyone in the class. Also you can create tests on the Googledocs which was a good idea because most students have access to internet and I can assign them homework online or tests online using GoogleDocs. We used the http://rubistar4teachers.org to help us create a rubric for the classroom. We used the Voicethread website to communicate with everyone and respond to a question that was asked. I learned about the copyright through youtube.com which is very popular. There were several great websites for the teachers to use such as the Classroom 2.0's website at http://www.classroom20.com, Edutopia's website at http://www.edutopia.org, and Free Technology for Teachers website at http://www.freettech4teachers.com. I learned so much from this class and I will use what I have learn through this class when I become a teacher and keep my classroom up to date with the digital society.
